Lincoln-Way District 210 presents grief support session at Manhattan Junior High
Dr. Damien Aherne, Superintendent | Manhattan School District 114

Four members of the Lincoln-Way District 210 PPS department met with staff and families at Manhattan Junior High on Monday, October 27. The team, trained through the Grief Sensitive Schools initiative, offered guidance to parents on supporting children dealing with recent losses.

The presentation covered several topics: managing personal capacity to support children, an overview of grief stages, recognizing that grief is experienced differently by everyone, ways parents can help rebuild trust and safety for their children, remembering those who have died, talking about feelings with children, suggested activities during grieving periods, actions to avoid when helping a grieving child, seeking further support for families or individuals, and recommendations for books and journals.

Slides and resources from the session were made available to the community. Community members in need of support are encouraged to contact social workers or counselors at any Manhattan School District 114 school.
