Providence Catholic High School has announced the top academic honors for its Class of 2025. James Piko has been named Valedictorian, while Katherine Timm has been honored as Salutatorian. These distinctions are a testament to their dedication and leadership throughout their time at the school.
Principal Paul Houston expressed pride in both students: “Our Celtic community is extremely proud of Jimmy and Katherine. They are talented, hard-working individuals who have made significant contributions to our school.”
James Piko, a graduate of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School and a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, plans to study Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business at the University of Notre Dame. He is an Illinois State Scholar and achieved a perfect score on the ACT. His involvement at Providence Catholic includes serving in the Augustinian Youth Ministry, leading the National Honor Society as President, and participating in various service projects.
In athletics, Piko was Captain of the Varsity Soccer Team and received numerous accolades including All-State recognition by chicagolandsoccer.org. He also participated in basketball and club soccer.
Reflecting on his education at Providence Catholic, Piko said: “I am grateful for the challenging nature of my schoolwork as I believe it will spare me the shock of the demanding workload college will throw at me.”
Katherine Timm attended St. Joseph School in Lockport before enrolling at Providence Catholic. She plans to major in History with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Chicago. Recognized as an Illinois State Scholar and National Merit Scholar, she also achieved a perfect ACT score.
Timm's extracurricular activities include roles such as Captain of Scholastic Bowl Team and Editor for Proviscope student newspaper. Her awards span across mathematics competitions and music performances.
Regarding her experience at Providence Catholic, Timm stated: “At PCHS, all my teachers pushed me to work hard... During my time here... I would say Providence prepared me for college by encouraging me to learn all I can about the world.”
Both students have credited specific teachers for their guidance during their high school years.
