Manhattan School District seeks applicants for vacant 2-year board terms
Julie Massa Human Resources/Payroll Assistant | Manhattan School District 114

In the recently concluded April 1, 2025, Consolidated Election, Manhattan School District 114 held elections for six school board positions. Four of these were 4-year terms, and two were 2-year terms. While five candidates contested for the 4-year terms, no candidates ran for the 2-year terms. As a result, the Board of Education is now seeking applicants to fill the two vacant 2-year term positions. Those appointed will serve until the 2027 Consolidated Election.

Interested candidates are required to send a written letter of interest to Superintendent Dr. Ron Pacheco at rpacheco@manhattan114.org by May 9, 2025. These letters should outline the candidate's qualifications and will be reviewed by the Board.

Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted to arrange a time for their interview, which will take place during a Special Meeting of the Board of Education.

The requirements for applicants include:

- Being a United States citizen

- Being at least 18 years old

- Being a resident of Illinois and the district for at least one year prior to the appointment

- Being a registered voter

- Not being a child sex offender

- Not holding another incompatible public office

- Not having a prohibited interest in any contract with the district

- Not being a school trustee

- Not holding specific types of prohibited state or federal employment

- Demonstrating familiarity with the Board’s policies regarding general duties and responsibilities of a Board and a Board member, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics, and gift ban. The Board's policies can be accessed on the Manhattan School District 114 website.
